Dr. Karkare is a 3rd generation orthopedic surgeon who followed in his father and grandfather’s footsteps. “Growing up I witnessed first hand how surgeons can greatly improve the health and wellness of their patients.

For as long as I can remember, I always wanted to be a doctor to help people get better, stay active and live life pain free.” Our number one priority is to provide exceptional care to every patient we see. Dr. Karkare is an expert in solving hip and knee issues helping patients return to full, active, pain-free lives.

Dr. Karkare specializes in limb reconstruction and joint replacement surgery. He has authored/co-authored numerous publications in  peer reviewed medical journals. Dr. Karkare is affiliated with numerous New York hospitals, and serves on an FDA advisory board, under the Orthopedic and Rehabilitation Device Panel.

A specialist in minimally invasive and robotic procedures, and has performed more than 1,500 surgeries.

His is one of the founding surgeons at Complete Orthopedics and has helped set up locations on East 30th St, Babylon, Bayside, Centereach, Lindenhurst, Riverhead, Patchogue, Madison Ave, and Stony Brook.

Dr Nakul KarkareI am Dr. Nakul Karkare. I am an orthopedic surgeon specializing in limb reconstruction and joint replacement surgery.

I think about and understand the unique needs of each patient when it comes to joint replacement surgery.

I was born and raised in Mumbai, India, and I am a third generation surgeon.

Dr Karkares Father - Dr Vinod V Karkare

My father, Dr. Vinod V. Karkare is a practicing orthopedic surgeon in Mumbai, India.

My father was born in Karachi, Pakistan and then moved to Mumbai in India after the partition in 1947.

He joined SIES College and then joined Grand Medical College, also called as JJ hospital in Mumbai. He did his MCPS and MBBS.

In April 1967 he joined general surgery in Grand Medical College to finish in 1971. He did MNAMS in 1974 and MS orthopedics in 1977. He also did his FACS orthopedics in 1979.

My father came to live in Chembur, Mumbai in 1959. He was living in a house in Chembur, which he later constructed into a hospital – “Shree Hospital” which he owns and operates.

Dr Nakul Karkares Grandfather Dr LB JoshiMy grandfather, Dr. L. B. Joshi was a surgeon who practiced at Joshi hospital in Pune.

He was the chief of surgery at Sassoon hospital in Pune, India.

Dr. L. B. Joshi was born on December 3, 1910 in Pune, India. His father Bar Krishna was a civil engineer who served the British government.

L. B. Joshi’s grandfather was a priest in Tushi baug in Pune. L. B. Joshi graduated from B. J. Medical College Sassoon Hospital. He went to England, entered FRCS, and then he returned to start a hospital in Karachi, Pakistan. During partition he came to Hyderabad and then he moved to Pune. In 1952, he started what is Joshi Hospital today. He was honorary professor of surgery at B. J. Medical College, and he died in 1994 after a brief illness.Dr. Nakul Karkares paternal grandparents

My grandmother Dwarka Joshi did her MSC in botany from the Royal Institute of Science in 1943.

My grandfather from my father’s side was Mcom.

 

Dr Nakul Karkare's motherMy mother is Neela Karkare. She is a retired high school teacher, and she lives with my father in Chembur, India.

I have done fellowships in joint replacement surgery as well as metabolic bone disorders at hospital for special surgery. I’m also fellowship trained in trauma and in sports medicine.

I’m affiliated at numerous hospitals. As you can see above, I also on the FDA Board of Orthopaedic and rehabilitation devices.

Dr. Shefali Karkare MDMy wife Shefali Karkare is the chief of Pediatric epilepsy at Cohens Children hospital on Long Island. I met my wife in Mumbai when we were doing our residencies after Medical School.
