New York State Medical Treatment Guidelines for Ankle Tendinopathies in workers compensation patients

The guidelines for Ankle Tendinopathies have been formulated by the New York State Workers Compensation Board to aid physicians, podiatrists, and other healthcare professionals in delivering suitable treatment.

These guidelines from the Workers Compensation Board are designed to be a valuable resource for healthcare professionals, helping them make informed decisions about the right level of care for patients with ankle and foot disorders.

It’s important to underscore that these guidelines are not a replacement for clinical judgment or professional experience. The ultimate decision regarding care should be a collaborative one between the patient and their healthcare provider.

Ankle Tendinopathies (Other than Achilles Tendinopathy)

Similar to the wrist, the tendinous compartments of the ankle can develop stenosing tenosynovitis. These compartments may undergo age-related degenerative changes and be influenced by various diseases, including rheumatic disorders, diabetes mellitus, and infections. Tendon-related issues in the ankle can involve tears, dislocations, and subluxations.

However, unlike Achilles tendinopathy, there is a lack of high-quality trials specifically addressing ankle tendinopathies. The management and treatment of these tendon-related conditions in the ankle and foot are often informed by comparisons to other tendinopathies, particularly those affecting the wrist.
