Hip Replacement Surgery:

Purpose: Hip replacement surgery is recommended for individuals dealing with hip joint damage caused by conditions such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, or fractures. The primary objective is to alleviate discomfort, restore mobility, and enhance overall quality of life.

Procedure: There are two primary types of hip replacements available—total hip replacement (THR) and partial hip replacement (hemiarthroplasty). THR involves replacing both the hip joint’s ball and socket, while hemiarthroplasty deals with the ball component only.

Implants: Typically, artificial hip joint components are crafted from materials like metal, plastic, or ceramic, chosen based on the patient’s age, activity level, and specific needs.

Recovery: Following the procedure, patients undergo physical therapy to regain strength and mobility, leading to reduced pain and improved hip function.

Custom Knee Replacement:

Purpose: Custom knee replacement offers a personalized approach to knee arthroplasty, ideal for individuals with severe knee pain or joint damage unresponsive to conservative treatments.

Procedure: Advanced imaging and computer modeling assess the patient’s knee anatomy before surgery, enabling the design of a custom-fitted knee implant tailored to their unique anatomy.

Benefits: Custom knee replacements often lead to improved alignment, stability, and reduced pain when compared to standard knee replacements.

Recovery: The recovery process involves physical therapy to regain knee strength and range of motion, typically resulting in reduced pain and improved knee function.

About Kings Park, NY

Kings Park is a community and census-designated place (CDP) situated within the Town of Smithtown in Suffolk County, Long Island, New York, USA. According to the 2010 census, the population of Kings Park was recorded as 17,282 residents.

Kings Park is primarily known for the infamous Kings Park Psychiatric Center, which became a prominent feature in the community. However, the history of Kings Park predates the establishment of the psychiatric hospital.

In the early 1860s, an Episcopal priest named William Augustus Muhlenberg founded Kings Park, initially named Saint Johnland.

This community was envisioned as a Christian farming settlement and welcomed Irish and Italian immigrant laborers. Saint Johnland also served as a refuge for disadvantaged members of the Protestant working class and orphaned children.

During the 1880s, approximately 870 acres of adjacent land were sold to Brooklyn officials (part of Kings County). In 1885, the Kings County Farm was established on this land to provide care for the impoverished and mentally ill. Over time, numerous buildings were constructed, creating a self-sustaining community that supported this institution for individuals with mental and criminal conditions.

It later became known as the Kings Park State Hospital, and the surrounding area adopted the name Kings Park. As one of the largest mental health facilities in the nation, Kings Park State Hospital treated thousands of patients from New York City and its surroundings.

The hospital ceased operations in the early 1990s, nearly a century after its founding. Many of the aging, deteriorating structures were demolished, and part of the land, offering scenic views of the Long Island Sound, was transformed into a state park.

In the 2010 census, Kings Park had a population of 17,282 residents, and it was home to 6,212 households. The population density was 2,787.4 people per square mile (1,076.2/km2), with 6,469 housing units at an average density of 1,043.4 per square mile (402.9/km2).

The racial composition of the CDP was 80.1% White, 5.1% African American, 0.1% Native American, 8.4% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 4.9% from other racial backgrounds, and 1.3% identifying as two or more races. Hispanic or Latino individuals of any race accounted for 16.3% of the population.

Within the 6,212 households, approximately 34.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, while 60.2% were comprised of married couples living together.

About 9.4% of households were headed by a female householder without a husband present, and 27.1% were non-family households. Additionally, 23.3% of all households consisted of individuals, with 12.1% being individuals aged 65 or older. The average household size was 2.71, and the average family size was 3.24.

The population distribution by age in the CDP was as follows: 23.3% under the age of 18, 6.6% between 18 and 24, 23.4% from 25 to 44, 29.4% from 45 to 64, and 17.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 43.3 years. For every 100 females, there were 93.7 males, and for every 100 females aged 18 and over, there were 90.8 males.

Regarding income, during the period from 2007 to 2011, the median annual income for households in the CDP was $92,921, while the median income for families was $106,128. Males had a median income of $78,882, compared to $55,872 for females.

The per capita income for the CDP was $37,980. Approximately 1.6% of families and 3.3% of the population were below the poverty line, with 2.6% of those being under the age of 18 and 6.3% aged 65 or over.

Kings Park has a predominantly Catholic community, with nearly 60% of its residents identifying as Catholic. The town parish, St. Joseph’s, is the largest religious community in the Town of Smithtown, with Father Peter J. Dugandzic serving as the pastor since June 26, 2019.
