Custom Knee Replacement Surgery:

For Enhanced Mobility and Comfort

Who Needs Custom Knee Replacement:

Custom knee replacement surgery is recommended for individuals who are experiencing severe knee pain and reduced mobility due to conditions like osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, or injury-related joint damage. If your knee pain is significantly impacting your daily life and conservative treatments haven’t provided sufficient relief, this surgery may be the solution you need.

The Procedure:

Custom knee replacement, also known as personalized knee replacement, is a surgical procedure tailored to your unique anatomy. It begins with a thorough evaluation of your knee joint using advanced imaging technology. Based on this assessment, a custom implant is designed to fit your knee precisely. During surgery, the damaged knee joint is removed, and the customized implant is carefully positioned. The goal is to restore natural joint function while minimizing discomfort.

Benefits of Custom Knee Replacement:

  1. Precision Fit: The custom implant is designed to match your unique knee structure, improving the potential for a more natural and comfortable feel.
  2. Enhanced Mobility: With a precisely fitted implant, you can expect improved joint movement and less pain.
  3. Long-lasting Results: Custom knee replacement can provide long-term relief, allowing you to enjoy a more active and pain-free lifestyle.

Hip Replacement Surgery:

Rediscover Pain-Free Movement

Who Needs Hip Replacement:

Hip replacement surgery is typically recommended for individuals suffering from hip pain, stiffness, or a significant decrease in mobility due to conditions like osteoarthritis, hip fractures, or avascular necrosis. If your hip pain is interfering with your daily activities and impacting your quality of life, hip replacement may be the solution.

The Procedure:

Hip replacement surgery involves the removal of the damaged hip joint and its replacement with a prosthetic hip implant. The procedure is performed under anesthesia to ensure your comfort. The surgeon makes an incision and carefully removes the damaged joint. The prosthetic implant is then securely placed in position to mimic the function of your natural hip joint.

Benefits of Hip Replacement:

  1. Pain Relief: Hip replacement offers substantial relief from chronic hip pain, allowing you to regain an active lifestyle.
  2. Improved Mobility: The surgery can restore your ability to walk, move, and engage in activities without discomfort.
  3. Enhanced Quality of Life: With a successful hip replacement, you can enjoy a more fulfilling and pain-free life.

Both custom knee replacement and hip replacement surgeries are effective solutions to alleviate pain and enhance mobility.

If you are experiencing persistent knee or hip discomfort that limits your daily activities, consider consulting with Dr. Nakul Karkare, a highly experienced orthopedic surgeon, to explore which procedure is best suited to your needs. Dr. Karkare and his team will provide personalized care to help you regain your quality of life through these advanced surgical options.

About Miller Place

Miller Place is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) situated on the North Shore of Long Island, within the Town of Brookhaven, Suffolk County, New York, USA. It boasts a rich history dating back to the 17th century and derives its name from the prominent Miller family, who were among its early settlers.

Traditionally, Miller Place thrived as an agrarian community. However, the hamlet has evolved significantly in the 20th century, transforming into a sought-after suburban area with a higher population density. According to the 2020 census, it had a population of 11,723.

Miller Place shares borders with neighboring areas like Sound Beach, Mount Sinai, Rocky Point, Middle Island, and Coram. Historically, it has maintained close ties with Mount Sinai, with both communities sharing institutions like the Mount Sinai Congregational Church, which is located near the boundary of Miller Place.

Additionally, residents of Miller Place and Mount Sinai often frequent the harborfront district of Port Jefferson, situated five miles to the west, as their primary commercial and downtown hub.

The land currently occupied by Miller Place was acquired from the indigenous Setalcott tribe in 1664 by settlers from Setauket. This land purchase also encompassed what would later become Mount Sinai, an adjacent community with a similar character. Throughout its history, Miller Place and Mount Sinai shared various functions and connections.

The earliest known dwelling in the area was built during the 1660s by Captain John Scott, a significant figure in the early history of Long Island.

This dwelling, known as Braebourne, appears on a map of the New England region credited to Scott. He served in various roles, including royal advisor and cartographer. Braebourne was located on the eastern side of Mount Sinai Harbor, but the identity of its actual occupant remains unknown.

While the initial settler of Miller Place remains unidentified, much of the credit for the settlement of the region is given to the Miller family. In 1679, Andrew Miller, a settler from East Hampton, purchased a 30-acre plot of land. Andrew Miller was a cooper by trade, and historical records suggest that he had emigrated from either Maidstone, England, or Craigmillar, Scotland.

By the early 1700s, the community had become known as Miller’s Place. The Miller family’s influence continued to grow well into the 18th century, with the construction of houses in the northern part of the hamlet.

Other families, including the Helmes, Robinsons, Burnetts, Hawkins, Woodhulls, and Thomases, joined the Millers in settling the area. Many of the roads in the present-day hamlet were named after these historical families.

The oldest surviving house in Miller Place is the residence of William Miller, the grandson of Andrew Miller. It consists of three sections constructed between 1720 and 1816 and is prominently located on North Country Road.

Numerous historical structures in the hamlet are clustered along this road, forming the core of the Miller Place Historic District. This district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976, making it the first historic district in the Town of Brookhaven. Another historic structure, the Samuel Hopkins House, is also separately listed.

During the American Revolutionary War, the town was divided, with most residents supporting the Patriot cause. However, many families were split in their loyalties.

The conflict led to several midnight raids, including an incident where a teenage Miller resident was shot while checking on the commotion outside. Benjamin Tallmadge led a successful march of eighty men to capture a British stronghold at Manor St. George, which passed along the western border of the town.

In 1789, Miller Place and Mount Sinai jointly established a Congregational church on the town border. While the Mount Sinai Congregational Church building (constructed in 1807) is technically located in Mount Sinai, the minister’s residence was built in Miller Place and continues to serve that purpose.

The first two public schools in Miller Place were founded in 1813 and 1837. In 1834, the Miller Place Academy, a private school led by a Yale graduate, was established.

Although the academy itself closed in 1868, it functioned as a public school from 1897 until the opening of the North Country Road Middle School in 1937. The Miller Place Academy building still stands as a symbol of the community’s history.
