Friendly Orthopedic Procedures: Knee and Hip Surgery

Custom Knee Replacement Surgery: Enhancing Your Mobility and Comfort

Who Is This For: If you’re dealing with severe knee pain and reduced mobility due to conditions like osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, or injury-related joint damage, custom knee replacement surgery could be your answer. When knee pain starts interfering with your daily life and regular treatments aren’t cutting it, this surgery might be your way forward.

The Procedure: Custom knee replacement, also known as personalized knee replacement, is all about tailoring the surgery to your unique body. We kick things off by taking a good look at your knee joint using advanced imaging technology. Based on this evaluation, we create a custom implant that’s designed to fit your knee like a glove. During surgery, we remove the damaged knee joint and carefully put in the customized implant, all with the goal of restoring natural joint function while keeping you as comfortable as possible.

Why It’s Great: The custom implant is designed to match your specific knee structure, making it feel as natural and comfy as possible. You can also expect better joint movement and less pain, thanks to the precise fit. Plus, it’s a long-term solution, so you can enjoy a more active, pain-free lifestyle.

Hip Replacement Surgery: Discover a Life Without Hip Pain

Who Is This For: Hip replacement surgery is typically recommended for individuals who are dealing with hip pain, stiffness, or significant mobility issues caused by conditions like osteoarthritis, hip fractures, or avascular necrosis. When your hip pain starts messing with your daily activities and your overall quality of life, hip replacement might be your best bet.

The Procedure: Hip replacement surgery involves taking out the damaged hip joint and replacing it with a prosthetic hip implant. We make sure you’re comfortable during the procedure by using anesthesia. Your surgeon makes an incision, carefully removes the damaged joint, and secures the prosthetic implant in place, making it work just like your natural hip joint.

Why It’s Great: Hip replacement brings substantial relief from chronic hip pain, so you can get back to an active lifestyle. It also restores your ability to walk, move, and do activities without discomfort. A successful hip replacement can truly enhance your quality of life.

Both custom knee replacement and hip replacement surgeries are fantastic solutions for getting rid of pain and improving your mobility. If you’re dealing with persistent knee or hip discomfort that’s holding you back, don’t hesitate to consult with Dr. Nakul Karkare, a highly experienced orthopedic surgeon. Dr. Karkare and his team are here to provide personalized care and help you regain your quality of life through these advanced surgical options.

The name “St. James” originated from the establishment of the Episcopal Church of St. James in the mid-1800s. Subsequently, a U.S. postal service office was established in the vicinity. St. James was predominantly farmland prior to the arrival of the Long Island Rail Road, resulting in limited growth during its early days.

The advent of the railroad brought about a significant transformation. In 1873, St. James, along with several other Long Island hamlets, attracted the interest of affluent New Yorkers seeking land in this newly developing community.

Many of these individuals aimed to convert the farmland into opulent estates, leading St. James to gain recognition as an appealing vacation destination for renowned actors such as John Barrymore, Buster Keaton, Irving Berlin, and Myrna Loy during the early 20th century. St. James has also been home to notable figures like Stanford White, William Jay Gaynor, and Mick Foley.

St. James boasts one of the oldest continuously operating general stores in the United States, the St. James General Store, established in 1857. This historic establishment, located within the Saint James District, has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1973.

The Land family, who arrived in the area around 1900, initially established a carpentry business that later evolved into a construction enterprise. The Land family, led by Law Land and his sons, played a significant role in the construction and preservation of many historic buildings in St. James.

Another noteworthy family, the Goehles, relocated to St. James from New York City after World War II. They first acquired a summer cabin in St. James before permanently settling in the area in 1943. The Goehle family, including Frank Goehle and his wife, Isabelle Walsh, was joined by Bud Land and Agnes Goehle, completing their transition to St. James.

In 1924, the Percy family purchased a triangular piece of land at the intersection of Lake Avenue, the railroad track, and Moriches Road, further enriching the history and community of St. James.
